WWFOL - World Wrestling Federation of Old Ladies

I believe I mentioned this before, but the school year here begins in March and ends in December. So I am currently on a two-month vacation. This past week and this coming week we have an English camp going on at the school. Two classes of 15 students each for three hours a day (that is total not three hours per class) – I love my job. So what have I been doing with my time? Well as you know Josh was here for the beginning of the vacation. Other than that not a whole lot. I have been taking the time to try and figure out this city from above ground. Until this time, the majority of my traveling through Seoul has been by subway – which is wonderful. The subway here is very convenient and efficient; however, I could not give you rough directions from point A to point B. Which is really not cool especially when you want to keep a taxi drive from scamming you. So since I have the time, I have been riding the bus wherever I needed to go these past two weeks. Finally I have some idea of how this place is set up – which by the way is a confusing mess but I am getting a few general ideas.

The other day as I was waiting for the bus, I saw probably one of the funniest things since I moved here. I was standing there trying not to freeze, and these two little, little old ladies come running (well mostly a fast shuffle, but they were really trying to work the running part). One of the ladies was wearing a tan colored coat and the other a dark blue – so for the purpose of this story let’s call them Lady Tan and Lady Blue. To the unknowing observer, it looks as if Lady Tan is trying to assault Lady Blue. She is grabbing and pulling at Lady Blue’s coat. Lady Blue is yelling at Lady Tan and trying to swat her with her bag. And they are moving this “fight” through the bus stop shelter and back to the sidewalk. Now here I am looking at the other people on the sidewalk. They do not seem to be bothered by this. Two old ladies throwing down and they do not care – yea well then again Jennifer they can understand what the two are yelling at each other. So I wisely decide not to throw water on them and instead I watch. I see Lady Blue hitting Lady Tan’s hand down. Lady Tan is grabbing for Lady Blues hands. This is when I realize that Lady Tan has some folded paper in her hand – she is trying to give it to Lady Blue. Oh what sneaky – Lady Tan tries to shove the paper into Lady Blue’s coat – this is when I see what the paper is – MONEY. And no these two are not yelling – well they are yelling but on top of the yelling they are laughing. They are laughing like two of my middle school students messing around in the halls. From what I could figure, Lady Blue had paid for something and Lady Tan was insisting that she be paid back. And thus were two 70 plus year old ladies duking it out on the sidewalk. Well, persistence prevailed, finally Lady Tan shoves the money into the top of Lady Blue’s shirt – and aided by a moment of shock – she runs away laughing from Lady Blue who is trying to keep the money from falling further down. Oh best ever! And what amazed me was – no one else was laughing. They just stood there staring at the traffic! Please people an old lady just shoved money down the shirt of another old lady – how does this get any funnier?!?!

So besides looking for comedy at the bus stop, what else have I been doing? Little this – little that. Much of my time has been spent on planning my next adventure. This time next week I will be in India. YES – INDIA!! I have the time off and I am still getting paid - what else should I be doing? I have my visa, tickets, and hotel reservations. I will fly out of here next Saturday to Delhi – spend two nights in Delhi – then on to Agra (this is where the Taj Mahal is at – I will there for five days – then on to Jaipur for an elephant ride up to a fort – I am there for four days – then a morning train back to Delhi where I will spend the day – then head to the airport late that night for a 2 AM flight back to Seoul. I will be back here a little after noon on the 8th. So almost two weeks in India, where there will be much shopping for fabric and earrings. The two places I have always wanted to go – India and Russia – and I may actually get to both this year. Oh there is much dancing on my part going on here.

That is really all for now. I will write before I head out.

Take Care.
